A Source of Inspiration
Working in D.C. for over a decade, Marykay used to love nothing better than driving past the Capitol when it was brilliantly lit up at night. Sure it was a little bit out of her way, but it was a trip that never failed to move her. “I’ve always felt it to be one of our country’s most inspiring symbols. To this day, I still am filled with a sense of pride when I pass by.”
For Marykay, the assets of working in D.C. didn’t stop there. Throughout her years as a confidential assistant, she worked for generals and officials alike in the Department of Army and the Department of State. But her favorite position of all for over five years was working for the National Security Council in the White House, where she helped organize Presidential events.

It was a far cry from her hometown of Leavenworth, Kansas, but it was an experience Marykay wouldn’t change for the world. Her years in D.C. instilled her with a strong sense of pride and passion for her work.
